Eric Church concert 12/19/2009

As part of our Christmas present to each other, Brian and I drove to Huntsville ALABAMA to see an Eric Church concert at a little venue called Crossroads.  If you haven't  been to an Eric Church concert, you're really missing out.    First of all, Eric is not that well known on a national scale (compared to say, Tim McGraw).... but when you go to his show there is not a person in the house that does not know every single word to every song he plays.  And, he doesn't just play his songs routinely... he plays the with passion & really rocks the house. 

  We got to Huntsville around 6:45, doors opened at 8, he came on at 10.....  People were already lining up in the cold waiitng to get that spot right by the stage.  We, on the other hand, were hungry and opted for food first.  We still were able to get a spot we wanted, on the upper tier of the venue by the railing right by the stage.  We posted up on stools and had the best seats in the house.  We saw some fights (between two plus sized women), made friends with probably the only bouncer I've ever met with an electrical engineering degree, and enjoyed the show.....

And, a roadtrip isn't complete without a stop at Wal-mart on the way home.... at 2:30 in the morning.  I can't decide if the emptyness of Wal-Mart so close to Christmas or the old man in a red onesie pajamas buying his weeks supply of groceries were the best part of that experience.......

Christmas

Yesterday being that it was Christmas, was about as normal as normal can be. Which means the typical family feuding & sisterly bickering rank side-by-side with over-eating, snow, and presents in the Galloway household. Throw in divorced family, step siblings, and a tight time table & bingobango that's Christmas.

I arrived late on Christmas Eve to a wintry white snow covered Marland Heights, but sadly woke up to a drizzling rain in stead of the promised snow.... Apparently that snow is stuck in the mid-west somewhere, possibly waiting for the weather's version of the air plane company who never seem to be able to get passengers from one destination to another flawlessly.

Regardless of the debacle that has turned into our Christmas traditions, it was wonderful to see my mom, dad, sister, probably future brother-in-law if he can deal with Kelly for that enough, and my mom's side of the family.... complete with our adopted mini-family that is the Watsons.

Anyone up for a road trip to Oregon this summer? I've got a childhood best friend that is dying for me to visit, promise Chelsea I'll be there soon!

Merry Christmas everyone, I hope everyone had a great holiday & if not I hope that your stories equal or can top mine. Because in the end, if we can't laugh at ourselves what is there to enjoy?

Christmas Eve..... 6 hours in the airport....

So, I’m sitting in the airport….waiting. Why is it when you travel you end up spending so much time waiting for flights, connections, planes, people, and taxis? It’s 3 p.m. and my flight to D.C. doesn’t take off until 6 p.m. Oh-well hopefully the inclement weather will stay away until I arrive safely in Pittsburgh.

One day and a half in Weirton, then dad and I hop on a flight to Austria. This trip is going to be fabulous, packed with lots of sight-seeing, friend & wine, and of course some of the Alps fresh powder…. I probably should have practice my German more, but unfortunately I ran out of time for this trip.

Okay, the best kept secret could be the funk/R&B band known in select circles as "HERE COME THE MUMMIES." Rumors abound claiming the secret identities are those of grammy nominees and various musicians forbidden to play together due to pre-existing contracts and record deals. I don´t know what makes this group more appealing, the mystery surrounding them, their outstanding musical talents, or their cleverly crafted jams with the sexual innuendos.

Oh, and their CD doesn´t do their live performance justice.... which in itself is another incredible feat.

Updating my life

So, I have climbed Macchu Picchu, celebrated New Year's on the Iquique's beaches, interned with a company in Villahermosa, Mexico, survived living as the daughter of a machista.... and now I'm living and working in the beautifully sunny Nashville, Tennessee. I know I kept a blog of my Mexican experience, unfortunately I cannot seem to find a link. Perhaps I'll be able to locate it soon.... Anyone out there have an idea where that link is?


Next month I'll be traveling to the snowy Austrian Alps for a New Year's ski trip with my father.

Voy a Peru y Chile

A 12/26/07

So, I am currently waiting in the Miami airport (without internet so this blog posting will be a little delayed). For some reason, I have been freezing all day long which is entirely uncool. Hopefully, this blog will be kept up with better than my blog from Germany, but I am making no promises. Germany was so difficult to keep up with because we traveled to so many different places so quickly and the Internet was difficult and expensive to come by. But, on a side note Germany was awesome, spending Christmas with Clemens’s family was an awesome experience, as was New Year’s. We didn’t get to ski due to lack of snow in Garmish, but we did see the Nuevanstein (totally spelled wrong, my apologies) castle instead. All in all it was a beautiful and rewarding trip.

This trip is another adventure to Peru and Chile. For my dad and I, the itinerary is rather packed.

12/26/2007 7:45 depart from Pittsburgh…..depart from Miami at 5:30…..depart from Lima in the morning. We will be spending the night at a friend’s house in Lima, but early in the morning we will be catching a flight to Cuzco

12/27/2007 Leave for Cuzco early in the morning, see the city that day with a Rotarian contact of dad (and his daughter)

12/28/2007 Spend the day at Macchu Picchu

12/29/2007 Fly to Lima in the morning, spend the day seeing the city, then depart for Chile

12/30/2007 Arrive in Iquique early in the morning

12/31/2007 Spend New Year’s Eve on the beach!!!

1/2/2007 & 1/3/2007 Spend the day in Iquique

1/4/2007 – 1/7/2007 Visit Viña del Mar

1/8/2007 Go to the airport, check our stuff, and spend the day seeing Santiago

1/9/2007 ARRIVE HOME!!!!!!!

As much fun as it was in Miami airport, I am so excited to finally be here in Peru. Our flight ended up having a little more than a 2 hour delay (due to problems with the breaks, that’s really reassuring when your traveling) So, by the time we got through everything in Lima we didn’t get to Fito’s parents house until 3 am. It was kind of funny though because the only way they will even know we were there is the fact that we left a note, a bottle of wine, and a Christmas card (from Gary).

Today in Cuzco the weather was warm and sunny in the morning, which prompted my decision to wear my cute skirt. Then, the clouds came right when we started our tour up in the mountains and needless to say I froze my cute my butt off. I am going to load my pictures onto the website here in a little bit I hope (assuming I can find a adaptor for my computer) so that everyone can see how beautiful Cuzco is.

I’ll write a very brief history to satisfy everyone’s curiosity, but I will post a detailed version later tonight or tomorrow. I want to get the names of the places we went correct before I detail everything. Cuzco was a very important city for the ancient Incas, and in the mountains the remnants of their religious sites are still in tact. Not perfectly, but what is is amazing. The architecture is incredible, the views are gorgeous, and it is truly something worth freezing your butt off to see. ;)

That’s all for now, I am going to try to load my pictures online once I find an adaptor for this computer.
